Ten WATG Hotel Projects Win 23 World Travel Awards

Ten WATG-designed projects won top honours in 23 categories in this year’s World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards have been called the “travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscar’s” by The Wall Street Journal and “the very highest achievement a travel product can hope to achieve” by eTravelBlackboard.  Nominations are considered by a group of industry experts, and the voting includes global participation from travel and tourism executives, travel agents, and the general public.

17 November 2010 - Ten WATG-designed projects won top honours in 23 categories in this year’s World Travel Awards. The World Travel Awards have been called the “travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscar’s” by The Wall Street Journal and “the very highest achievement a travel product can hope to achieve” by eTravelBlackboard.  Nominations are considered by a group of industry experts, and the voting includes global participation from travel and tourism executives, travel agents, and the general public. 

Garnering nine individual awards – more than any other property in the world – was the Emirates Palace, in Abu Dhabi, designed by WATG’s London office. Among its many achievements, it was cited as “The World’s Leading Meetings and Conference Hotel.”

Notable among the winners, as well, was the Pan Pacific Singapore, renovated and upgraded over a several-year period by WATG’s Honolulu office while the hotel was fully operational. It was presented with two awards, including “The World’s Leading Business Hotel.”

“We are truly humbled to have so many of our projects acknowledged and celebrated by the prestigious World Travel Awards,” noted WATG president and CEO Mike Seyle. “What makes our destinations award winners is a passion for achieving the vision of our clients.”

In alphabetic order by region, here are the WATG properties and the categories in which they won top honours:

Asia
•  Ayana Resort & Spa, Bali – Asia’s Leading Luxury Villa; Asia’s Leading Luxury Resort
•  Pan Pacific Singapore – Asia’s Leading Business Hotel; World’s Leading Business Hotel

Caribbean
•  Atlantis, Paradise Island – Bahamas’ Leading Resort; Caribbean’s Leading Casino Resort
•  The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman – Cayman Islands’ Leading Resort


Indian Ocean
•  Conrad Maldives – Indian Ocean’s Leading Resort; Maldives’ Leading Spa Resort
•  Hilton Mauritius – Mauritius’ Leading Spa Resort

Middle East
•  Atlantis, The Palm – Dubai’s Leading Resort; Middle East’s Leading Resort; UAE’s Leading Resort
•  Emirates Palace – Abu Dhabi’s Leading Hotel, Meetings & Conference Hotel and Beach Resort

North America
•  Disney’s Grand Floridian – North America’s Leading Resort
•  The Venetian – North America’s Leading Casino Resort

A total of 60 WATG-designed projects were nominated for awards.  The winners were announced at the Grand Final Gala Ceremony, which took place in London on 7 November 2010.
