Long serving duo enjoying life at Cardiff hotel

22 December 2009 - Two long-serving hotel workers are set to enter their seventeenth years working at a leading Cardiff hotel.

Head chef and head of housekeeping at The Legacy Cardiff International Hotel, Mike Ling and Debbie Jones, both feel they are back to where they belong following the re-launch of the hotel by Legacy Hotels and Resorts in November.

The duo both worked at the former Quality Hotel in Merthyr Road before it closed down in February when the previous management company went into administration.

Award-winning chef Mike said: “When the Quality Hotel closed I started working for a hotel in Newport, but as soon as Legacy Hotels opened it again I knew I had to come back.

“It was a hard decision to make, but I have worked at the hotel for so long and I see the kitchen as being my own.

“Since taking over the management, Legacy have really spruced the place up and improved the facilities in the kitchen and it is great to be back.”

Debbie is also over the moon to be heading up the housekeeping team again at the hotel, which is by junction 32 of the M4.

“I worked my way up from being a chamber maid to head of housekeeping and I really love my job,” she said.

“It was heartbreaking when the hotel had to close, so I was delighted when I was given the chance to come back.

“A lot of work has been done to improve the hotel which makes my job a lot easier, but it is still very hard work which is just how I like it.”
