LodgeNet Launches Whitepaper Series to Help Hotel Owners and Operators Plan for Guests’ Escalating Broadband Usage
Initial Installment Recaps 2010 Growth in Traveler Demand and Recommends When Capacity Increases Are Warranted
ATLANTA, March 9, 2011 - LodgeNet Interactive Corporation (Nasdaq: LNET), the leading provider of media and connectivity solutions to hospitality and healthcare businesses, today released the first in a series of whitepapers that will outline specific steps and strategies hotels can take to meet the increasing demand for broadband among travelers.
“How much bandwidth does a hotel really need? When do bandwidth constraints start creating guest satisfaction issues - and how can hoteliers know when it’s time to provision more bandwidth for their guests? These are critical questions in today’s mobile, bandwidth intensive world,” said Steve Pofahl, Senior Vice President/General Manager of LodgeNet Broadband.
The first release in the series - How Bandwidth Availability Affects Guest Satisfaction in a Hotel Environment - includes the following findings and recommendations:
— During 2010, data usage in hotel guest rooms increased by an average of
4.4% per month, consistent with Cisco’s five-year global forecast.
— Guest satisfaction issues begin to manifest as a hotel’s circuit load
exceeds 70% of capacity.
— Hotels should consider increasing their bandwidth capacity when peak
utilization averages 60-65% of capacity.
— A simple formula for determining when it’s time to add more bandwidth
based on guest usage patterns.
LodgeNet will be releasing future whitepaper publications regarding hospitality networking and communications issues.
