La Pêche families to enjoy renovated community spaces for a better quality of life

Canada NewsWire

Government of Canada awards more than $34,000 in financial assistance to support renovations to the community centre in the Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham sector

LA PÊCHE, QC, Sept.13, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

La Pêche families will enjoy safer play spaces for their children and improved facilities for socializing and physical activity thanks to $34,200 in funding from the Government of Canada.

The investment was announced today by Willian Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

The financial contribution will help the Municipality of La Pêche renovate the interior and exterior of the Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham community centre, including replacing the exterior cladding, insulation and eavestroughs; replacing the flooring, doors and windows; repairing the walls; renovating the washrooms; upgrading the access for persons with limited mobility; and purchasing equipment (heat exchanger, kitchen hood, etc.). Residents of La Pêche will be able to enjoy a modern, completely renovated community centre in which they can safely practise their favourite sports and leisure activities.

The investment has been granted through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300 million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary through investments in community spaces that bring Canadians together.

Quotes

“This investment is part of a community construction project celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary. There is no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That is how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.”

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED

“Through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, we are strengthening our communities across Canada, making them even more vibrant and united. I am pleased to see that residents here in La Pêche will be able to enjoy modernized infrastructure.”

William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac

“This is good news for the Municipality of La Pêche. As part of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations, under the theme of [a clean growth economy], the project consists in renovating the Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham community centre. By having access to a proper safe place for physical and community activities, young people, seniors and persons with reduced mobility can enjoy a pleasant, stimulating environment.”

Robert Bussière, Mayor of La Pêche
