AIRM® USA Congratulates Two Airport Restaurant Concepts in its Portfolio
- Obrycki’s Crab House in Baltimore, Legal C Bar in Boston Honored -
PITTSBURGH, March 2, 2011 - AIRM® USA, developer of the leading airport concessions model in North America, is proud to congratulate two of the regional restaurant concepts in its portfolio for being named among the 10 best U.S. airport restaurants by Frommer’s Travel Guides. The list, commissioned in conjunction with USA Today, focused on local concepts at domestic airports across the nation. Obrycki’s Crab House at the AIRM at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) garnered second place on the list. Legal C Bar at the AIRM at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) took third place.
“At AIRM USA, we believe firmly in infusing our concessions programs with high-quality local concepts that capture the essence of our host cities. Who can resist crab cakes or crab soup from Obrycki’s at BWI, or the Boston clam chowder served at Legal C Bar at Boston Logan?” said Mark Knight, president of AIRM USA. “We are proud to recognize these two highly successful restaurants. They’re both an important part of our concessions program, because they offer passengers quality and value.”
A well-known local seafood proprietor in Baltimore with a reputation for quality, Obrycki’s Crab House opened its 80-seat AIRM restaurant in 2006. Travelers can select from a full menu of freshly prepared seafood dishes, including crab cakes, crab soup, soft crabs, crab salad wraps, shrimp salads and broiled shrimp and crab meat.
In its first year of operation, Obrycki’s increased sales over the previous tenant in its location by half a million dollars. In 2007, Airport Councils International-North America (ACI-NA) bestowed the award of “Honorable Mention” on Obrycki’s in the category of Best New Food and Beverage Concept in North America. In 2010, Obrycki’s opened its second airport location at the new AIRM at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE).
Situated pre-security in Terminal B at BOS, Legal C Bar provides travelers with an authentic taste of the sea. The concept dates back to 1950 when the founder opened a fish market in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and later added a seafood restaurant next door. Six decades later, travelers at BOS can sample clams, cod, crab and chowder from Legal C’s menu as well as custom cocktails, all in a contemporary yet comfortable restaurant.
In 2009, Legal C Bar landed the number-two spot on the list of “Top Ten Airport Restaurants” in The National, an English newspaper published by the Abu Dhabi Media Company. Legal C Bar was the only restaurant from the United States included on the list.
“At the AIRM, we excel at creating the optimal mix of regional, national and international brands, and we offer everything at ‘Regular Mall Prices….Guaranteed,’” Knight added. “Passengers continue to respond to our model.. Our programs in Pittsburgh, Boston, Baltimore and Cleveland are generating higher per-passenger spends, greater per-passenger revenue, and higher rent revenue for our airport partners. Restaurants like Legal C and Obrycki’s play a critical role in that mix.”
