Windstar Cruises Voted ‘Most Popular’ Small-Ship Cruise Line in Zagat Survey

Windstar Also Highly Ranked in Categories of Top Overall, Cabins, Service, Dining and Facilities

SEATTLE, Nov. 17 - Windstar Cruises, which operates a three-ship fleet of luxury yachts that explore hidden harbors and secluded coves of the world’s most treasured destinations, has been voted the “Most Popular” cruise line in the small-ship category by Zagat. Windstar also received high marks in the categories of Top Overall, Top Cabins, Top Service, Top Dining and Top Facilities.

“We are delighted and honored to receive these high rankings from Zagat,” said Diane Moore, president, Windstar Cruises. “This is a tremendous validation of the outstanding cruise experience Windstar delivers to guests.”

This is the first survey on cruise lines conducted by Zagat. Zagat’s rankings were based on votes by 2,379 regular cruisers covering 22 major cruise lines. Each cruise line was evaluated on Zagat’s signature 30-point scale for five aspects of performance: cabins, service, dining, facilities and shipboard activities, with an overall score based on the average of the five separate ratings. Zagat’s Cruise Line survey can be found at http://www.zagat.com/cruiselines.

Zagat is the world’s most trusted source for information about where to eat, drink, stay and play around the globe, and such has become a symbol of quality. Zagat rates and reviews airlines, restaurants, hotels, nightlife, movies, music, golf, resorts, shopping, spas and a range of other entertainment categories in more than 100 countries.

Windstar recently announced the latest phase of its Degrees of Difference initiative featuring added amenities and enhancements to its luxurious ships in the areas of dining, accommodations, entertainment, spa, fitness and shore excursions. With this latest initiative, Windstar continues to raise the bar, delivering a vacation experience that is “180 Degrees from Ordinary.”

In addition to Zagat’s accolades, Windstar has been recognized by notable names in the travel world. Celebrated Living, American Airlines’ prestigious publication for first class passengers, named Windstar Cruises “Best Small-Ship/Mid-Ship Cruise Line” on their 2009 Platinum List for the third time in a row. Windstar received a “Favourite Small-Ship Cruise Line” award in the U.K.‘s Conde Nast Traveller’s 2009 Readers’ Travel Awards and was listed in their “Top 100 of the Best the Travel World has to Offer.” Windstar has also earned top honors in 2009 in Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Awards,” was lauded among “The World’s Best Small Ships” by Conde Nast Traveler and was voted “Most Romantic Cruise Line” by Porthole Cruise Magazine.
