The International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York Set to Open Sunday, March 1 at The Jacob

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 - The 16th annual International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York is the place for restaurant and foodservice operators to uncover hot new trends, learn how to operate more efficiently, profit from their menus, boost beverage earnings, enhance their customers experience and succeed in a down economy.  The conference and expo will be held March 1-3, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.  There are dozens of visual and exciting story ideas; here are some of the highlights:

— Michael Kaufman, the chairman of the National Restaurant Association
    will present “America’s Restaurants: Serving Our Nation,” on Sunday,
    March 1st at 1:00 pm.  Kaufman will share his wealth of knowledge from
    serving many years in the restaurant industry and discuss the
    challenges the industry faces especially during these tough economic
    times.

— Paris Gourmet will present The 20th Annual U.S. Pastry Competition to
    select the 2009 “Pastry Chef of the Year” on Sunday, March 1st.  Give
    My Regards to Broadway! “Inspiration from New York’s famed Broadway
    District: Times Square, Theaters, Plays & Shows” is the theme as
    pastry chefs from around the world will display their talents and
    skills by creating advanced level desserts and highly technical
    chocolate and sugar sculpted showpieces.

— Japanese Pavilion and Seminars - Forty Japanese companies will
    showcase ingredients and tools essential to creating Japanese inspired
    cuisine.  The Flavors of Japan lecture session is sponsored by JRO
    (Organization to Promote Japanese Restaurants Abroad) and will feature
    Maggie Ruggiero, Food Editor/Stylist, Gourmet Magazine with
    presentations on Dashi-Umami, The Culture of Soba, Japanese Cutlery
    and Cooking Tools, Seasonal Ingredients, and Sake and Shochu.

— PMQ’s New York Pizza Showcase - Features pizza business seminars, the
    pizza industry information center, the US Pizza Team Trials and
    leading exhibitors specific to the pizza industry. The showcase is
    sponsored by PMQ Magazine.

— The New York Wine Expo will be open to the International Restaurant &
    Foodservice Show of New York attendees on Sunday, March 1st. The New
    York Wine Expo is an opportunity to sample over 640 wines from over
    160 winemakers from around the globe in the Grand Tasting arena.

— The Ultimate Barista Challenge(TM) is an action packed competition
    where baristi, someone who professionally prepares coffee, compete in
    a dueling stage of identical espresso stations to shake, not stir,
    their espresso cocktails, to prepare beautiful caffe latte art, blend
    espresso frappe and brew the best they have.
