Southworth Development Purchases The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Creighton Farms

NEWTON, Mass., March 23 - Today, Southworth Development LLC announced it has purchased Creighton Farms, a 181 unit residential golf community located outside of Washington D.C. The property includes the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature designed 18-hole golf course known until recently as The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Creighton Farms.

Founded by David Southworth, Southworth Development has grown to become one of the industry’s great success stories.  The company has become a leader in the international resort and golf development industry, having served as investor, operations manager or construction manager for numerous high-profile resort communities throughout the United States, The Caribbean, The Bahamas and Europe.  Throughout his career, David Southworth has developed over $1 billion in golf and hospitality related projects.

“We take extreme pride in every club and community we touch,” said David Southworth.  “The company’s development philosophy is simple—to identify extraordinary sites and then create unique, high end and friendly communities using a variety of resort-type amenities and lifestyle offerings.  In doing this, we partner with the environment, creating eco-sensitive developments which will support families for generations to come.”

Prior to the sale, the Seller and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company mutually agreed that the Golf Club would no longer be branded or operated by Ritz-Carlton.  The golf course will be renamed The Club at Creighton Farms and will be managed and operated by Southworth Golf.

Southworth will waste little time getting to work and plans to inject several million dollars into the project to assure that the property continues to be developed at the highest standards.  Plans are underway for construction of an elegant new clubhouse overlooking the 18th green, while renovations to the existing Golf House and Pro Shop have begun to expand the outdoor patio area.
