Cambria Winery’s Pinot Noir Named Top Wine for 2009
Wine Enthusiast magazine toasts 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir with a No. 1 ranking
SANTA MARIA, Calif., Dec. 3 - Each year, the editors of Wine Enthusiast magazine - one of America’s most well-respected wine, food and travel publications - taste thousands of wines from all over the world. Of those numerous wines, only one receives the highest honors in Wine Enthusiast’s annual “Top 100” list.
This year, that wine is Cambria Winery’s 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. In an announcement released today, Cambria was No. 1 on a list that represents the Wine Enthusiast editors’ favorite wines of 2009. The Santa Barbara County winery led wines from all corners of the globe, including Bordeaux, the Napa Valley, the Barossa Valley and Italy. Pinot Noir is considered a fast-growing trend among consumer preferences today.
“This is truly an honor,” said Denise Shurtleff, winemaker for Cambria. “We have always known Santa Barbara’s benchland was special. We are gratified that the region and our wine are being recognized as a significant player in an international field.”
Cambria Winery is located in the Santa Maria Valley appellation of Santa Barbara County, an area that has built a reputation for lively Pinot Noir and vibrant Chardonnay. Julia’s Vineyard is located on the cooler, western edge of the Cambria estate - takes its name from owner Barbara Banke’s youngest daughter. The 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir has a suggested retail of $21.
