Bandit Wines Go Airborne on Delta Wings
Five-Continent Carrier First to Reduce Carbon Footprint with Tetra Pak Wine
ST. HELENA, Calif., Nov. 17 - The Three Thieves Bandit wines, packaged in eco-friendly Tetra Paks, have gotten around since their introduction in 2002, but now they’re going global—after being selected by Delta Air Lines, a major international carrier, as their exclusive by-the-glass wine on international flights.

The innovative Tetra Pak containers for the Bandit wines were a major draw for Delta, bringing wine on board in more convenient, lighter-weight, more easily stackable and storable packaging and giving an added “green” dimension to Delta’s wine service. The Bandit boxes are made of Tetra Prisma(TM), which is comprised of 70% paper, a renewable resource. For Delta, switching from bottles to Bandits will mean a 50% reduction in the weight of wine for both ground transport and onboard service, resulting in lower fuel costs and a smaller carbon footprint.
The Bandit Chardonnay and Merlot, which will be served in Economy Class on all Delta and Northwest international flights outbound from the US starting September 1, are award-winning wines made from premium California grapes. This partnership was facilitated by the AMI consulting group, specialists in connecting food and beverage suppliers with airlines, cruise ships and upscale retailers. Soon Delta and Northwest passengers headed for 382 destinations in 69 countries will get a chance to see and taste the results of this collaboration for themselves.
