FAQ’s are as follows:
Q. Is the property 100% freehold status or leasehold?
A. Please note that all islands that are developed for resorts are leased to a certain period by the Government. So, all resorts are leasehold.
Q. Can it be owned by a foreigner or must there be a local partner?
A. Yes, resorts can be owned (Head Lease from the Government) by foreigners WITHOUT a local partner.
(Pls note that the foreign company will be more comfortable WITHOUT a local partner so that they have guarantee that they have 100% control/say of their investment/asset)
Q. Does a local company need to be established to purchase the property?
A. Absolutely not. However, if they want they can establish a local company and it can be a foreign investment or a local/foreign partnership. Either way, there will be no royalty or charges for foreign investment as it’s in the tourism sector.
Q. Additional fees which would be incurred during the purchase (such as transfer fees, registration fees etc…)
A. To transfer Head Lease from one party to another will have to pay USD 1250.00 per bed that is USD 1250 x number of bed approved for new islands which are not started operation.
