In 2007, 45 million Chinese tourists have traveled abroad. But how many hotels were really ready to welcome them ? Do you know that Chinese tourists need Chinese tea in their rooms, as well as electric kettles, and the most important : Instant noodles available at all times, even in 5 star hotels !

How to translate in Chinese your website ?, Which online strategy on the Chinese earch engines, how to contact Chinese outbound travel agencies…

Let’s share our experiences with the Chinese tourists, and say “Welcome” to them !

Hi Evey Body,
I’m very happy to read your post . It reflects very well the difficulties for Hospitality industry to welcome the new affluent Chinese tourists. I work in a specialized agency (China Elite Focus) that helps Hotels, Incoming Tour Operators and Tourism Boards to attract more Chinese tourists to their place. And I can say that 99% of the World hotels are NOT ready to welcome Chinese visitors (no Chinese food available, Staff not Chinese speaking, no understanding of the Chinese culture, and some arrogance with Chinese visitors).

Two years ago, no one in Hospitality industry was interested in having a communication strategy in China to target directly Chinese potential tourists. Since the last months of 2008, there is a strong increasing of requests from Hotels all over the world that feel the need to seduce Chinese outbound tourists directly in China.

In our expertise (we have in Shanghai a staff composed of Chinese and westerners) Shopping is the number one activity for affluent Chinese tourist, followed by Golfing.

What is the most effective way for US tourism operators to attract new Chinese visitors ?

Best Regards…....

If you want to attract Chinese customers then you must know chinese language or you must have sufficient Chinese translators in your hotel

Maybe hotels could link up with the nearest Chinese tourist office or connect with a tour group when they visit the local area..  talking direct to the people you’re trying to attract is the key.  Ask them what there priorities are in a foreign hotel and then implement those ideas if you can afford to!
