Tivoli Hotels & Resorts

With 13 properties around the country and 2 in Brazil, the Tivoli Hotels & Resorts group is one of the main hotel chains in Portugal, providing accommodation through approximately 3,600 rooms in the four and five star categories.

The Tivoli Hotels & Resorts group now belongs to GESH (Espírito Santo Hotels Group), a group which has been involved in the hotel business since 1991, and which acquired a further 3 units in the Algarve during the 90s: the Tivoli Lagos, the oldest and most highly regarded 4 star hotel in the Algarve, the Tivoli Carvoeiro, a reference point in Carvoeiro, and one of the most famous Algarve destinations, the sumptuous Tivoli Marina Vilamoura in Vilamoura.

With the GES (Espírito Santo Group) placing particular emphasis on tourism as a strategic sector for investment, GESH sought to diversify its markets in the 4 and 5 star category, more specifically through city hotels which could offer culture and tradition. It was for this reason that the group then acquired Tivoli Hotels in 2000, a company in which it already had a minority position.

The Tivoli Group was founded in 1933 with the prestigious Tivoli Lisboa, located on Av. da Liberdade, the most emblematic avenue in Lisbon. Other investments in new properties then followed: The Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, Tivoli Jardim, Tivoli Sintra and Tivoli Coimbra which opened their doors to the public in this order. With GESH’s acquisition, the Tivoli brand substantially increased its supply in the congress segment and also diversified supply in tourism through expanded facilities in leisure and golf.

In 2001, the now renovated chain opened the Tivoli Oriente, a magnificent 4 star hotel in Parque das Nações in Lisbon (former Expo ‘98 site). In 2002, with the Tivoli Madeira, the group arrived on the Island of Madeira. In 2004, the Tivoli Marina Portimão was acquired.

In 2006, the Tivoli Hotels & Resorts Group started an internationalization process by acquiring its first unit in Brazil, the Tivoli Ecoresort Praia do Forte, located near São Salvador da Bahia. In February 2009, the group opened its second hotel in Brazil, the Tivoli São Paulo - Mofarrej. In Portugal in the following month, the luxurious Tivoli Victoria was opened in Vilamoura. Finally, in 2009, a management agreement was signed with the André Jordan Group, for the Victoria Residences, luxury apartments located in front of the Tivoli Victoria.
